Lovely base for Hvar - and great hosts!

We messed up on our arrival time, and were going to be stuck in Jelsa for the night instead of arriving in Hvar town or bussing it over for our 2 nights at Gordana. Our hosts really helped us out and drove over to collect us - what lovely, lovely people! We then had a welcome beer on the terrace and learned lots of useful info about Hvar before we got going.
The room we had was downstairs with the non-en-suite bathroom, and was very nice. Not acres of space, and I suspect that the better rooms are upstairs (they have private balconies by the look of it) but we really enjoyed our stay and felt SO welcome. Sorry no photos! Thanks again to our lovely hosts :)

Really good value accommodation for an expensive resort

My husband and I stayed at House Gordana earlier in September. At very short notice we had tried to book other b & b accommodation, but were referred to House Gordana as they were full. Marija (owner) was so helpful and friendly in her emails and just as lovely in person. Perfect English too. Her husband arranged to meet us at the bus stop to collect us in his car. This was great service and really helped us familiarise ourselves with the surroundings.
We had booked ourselves to Hvar as a last minute treat. Accommodation is pretty expensive and we really wanted to find something that didn't break the bank. At 35 euros a night plus breakfast at 7 euros this accommodation was great value.
All bedrooms are en suite and (I believe) have small balconies, are situated above Marija's family accommodation and have pleasant views over Hvar. The rooms are a little old fashioned furniture wise but are very, very clean and feel very Croatian.
We opted for breakfast - very nice on Marija's balcony but there is a kitchen area if you wish to self cater.
The accommodation is very central and is a pleasant 7- 10 minute walk into town.
Marija also kindly gave us a lift to Stari Grad to catch the ferry.

relaxing and comfortable

We stayed at House Gordana for 6 nights. The room was a fair size and was spotless, there was a baclony with a nice view. The house was a 5 min walk to a lovely beach. Marija was a wonderful hostess and made us feel really welcome. The house is on a steep road and there are a lot of steps. The room was fabulous for the price and really made our holiday on Hvar a special time.

Pefect! A little gem. We have fallen in love with Hvar and it's people. So good I wanted to keep it to myself really!

This was our second trip to Hvar within a matter of weeks during 2009. My husband and I visited in June 09 staying at House Gordana (recommended to us by our very good South African friends!). We had mixed "freak" weather in June but the island, the accommodation and especially the people made us fall in love with Croatia. We decided that a second trip was in order!! We took our 2 teenage children (15 & 14) back in August 09 staying once again at our fabulous House Gordana. It was even better the second time around!! Maria and Miro (owners of the House) and the whole family are an absolute delight. Maria is the most fabulous host - not only for her hospitality but for her knowledge of Hvar (she works part time in the Tourist Agency as well!!). The accommodation is perfect - clean and perfectly situated with a really relaxed friendly atmosphere! Even our 2 teenagers (and you know how hard they are to please) talk constantly of their holiday in Hvar! They keep asking if we are going back next year! And do you know what? We definitely are going back next year and probably every year after that!!! I have to say I am torn between keeping this little gem to myself - and shouting about how fantastic Hvar and House Gordana is!!! Anyway - I decided not to be selfish!! Cannot wait for our 2010 trip to House Gordana and to once again enjoy the fantastic hospitality offered by Maria, Miro and all the family!

Brilliant location with kitchen facilities

This self catering accomodation was within easy reach of the town, just 5 minutes gentle walk. The room was spacious and clean with a balcony and en-suite and very good value. As we were driving it was useful that there was parking on site and the owner sent helpful maps and regular texts. Her English was excellent and she was most helpful

Quirky but met our needs

We stayed at House Gordana from 11 - 14 July. Marija was helpful and arranged to pick us up when we arrived on the Catamaran from Split. The accommodation was fine - the furniture is a little old fashioned but I guess it is typical Croatian traditional style rather than flat pack! Our room had a small balcony with a table and chairs on it - lovely for eating breakfast on. The fridge and the kitchen facilities were also very useful and helped us save a few Kuna!! The room was spotless and the bed linen was crisp white. The house is just a short pleasant walk from the port so we couldn't have asked for more.

House Gordana is the perfect place to stay and enjoy the island of Hvar

A friend and I spent a weeks holiday on this beautiful island and staying at House Gordana made it that much more special. Marija and Miro are the perfect hosts and couldn't have been kinder or more accommodating. We were met by Marija at the bus station before being taken to the house. We felt immediately at home and Marija took time out to give us advice on what to see and do during our stay. We will definitely go back and there is only place where we would stay and that's House Gordana.

A very nice guest house

Stayed for 5 nights from May 30 to June 3 and found the place to be excellent value.A no frills place with a little kitchen to make a small meal of coffee.Marija was very helpful in giving us suggestions and even picked us up after we walked to Milina about 90 minutes away along the coast after we were wet and tired.It did rain for 3 days ,very unusual but the last day was glorious and we spent it at the Amfora Hotel where you can go as a guest,you pay 100 kunar.Marija picked us up from the ferry and took us back as you do have a few steps to climb.All in all a great place to hang out.

Fantastic place to stay!

We've just come back from Hvar and stayed at House Gordana for 8 nights. On our arrival Marija picked us up from the bus station, even though it was only a 10 minute walk away! The place was great - clean, comfortable and a few minutes walk to the port. We even had our own balcony with a sea view (albeit between the houses!). It had a kitchen with all the necessary kit to cook ourselves some dinner and late night snacks!
Marija and Mario were very welcoming and suggested activities to do whilst we were there. Both my friend and I would highly recommend House Gordana and Hvar. A beautiful island with lots to do!

Brilliant value

We stayed for 5 nights in June. Marija picked us up from the ferry and was very friendly & helpful. Rooms are nice & very clean. Liitle balcony for each room, you can see the sea from most of them. 5 mins (down lots of steps) to the town centre. Loved the place & would definately go back.

Wonderful hospitality and great value

The owner Marija and her family were fantastically hospitable and it was like having our own tourist guide! We stayed for 5 nights and the location of the house is only a 5 minute walk to the harbour. Each room has its own showeroom and rooms are spacious. There is a kitchen that enables you to cook a small meal and a fridge in the room.
We really loved staying here and thank Marija for going out of her way to return my camera when I left it in her house!

House Gordana Delivers - Location and Service

We stayed for 2 nights in April at House Gordana on Hvar island. We were please with all aspects of the stay. The rooms are simple but roomy and the location is wonderful, the beds are comfortable and the baths are roomy. There is a lot of space for storage of luggage and other items so they aren't scattered all over the room! The rooms have nice wardrobes for hanging jackets etc. It is just a short scenic walk into town, or a short walk to the Franciscan Monastery. Parking is easy and available and the residence is easy to find. A kitchen is available for guests - we only used it for tea and coffee but it was handy.
Marija was a gracious hostess eager, friendly and helpful. We opted for the breakfast at 5 euros extra and Marija did a great job serving us in the kitchen that was available to all the guests. It was delicious.
Her husband is quite a "handy man"! I had dropped our converter that I used to recharge the batteries for my camera and it had broken. When inquiring of Marija where to purchase batteries in town, her reply was "wait a while, I think my husband can fix it for you". And fix it he did!! It worked perfectly for the remaining 2 weeks of our trip!
When you stay at House Gordana, you feel like you are staying with your mother! (Although Marija was probably 25 years younger than me) She is indeed a caregiver, and a good one at that!
